Few private clubs in Canada can match the profile, stature
and tradition of the venerable Glencoe Club in Calgary,
Alberta. Located between the prestigious communities of
Mount Royal and Elbow Park, five minutes from downtown Calgary,
the multi-facility, family-oriented club has grown from
its origins as a curling, skating and badminton club over
70 years ago, to become one of North America's finest sports
and social clubs.
One aspect of the Club’s history has been the involvement
by many of its members in various winter and summer Olympics
events, either as competitors, officials or volunteers.
That participation prompted the Club to develop a unique
recognition display that would honor those members in a
tasteful and distinguished way while also complimenting
the refined atmosphere of the Club. The Club selected PlannedLegacy
to design and fabricate a display that showcased individual
Olympic achievements while also enabling easy and convenient
updating of information and honoree profiles.
Working in collaboration with Glencoe Club management,
PlannedLegacy created an innovative presentation that highlights
featured members with laminated tiles that incorporate inset
photos and text captions in a contemporary design. The individual
tiles are placed over a larger generic photomural showing
multiple Olympic-oriented images of miscellaneous competitions.
Accenting the recognition display are tempered 6 ml glass
panels treated with color graphic lettering at each end.
One panel features a listing of summer and winter Olympic
cities at which Glencoe members have participated. The other
panel features a Statement of Appreciation honoring the
commitment and spirit of the respective Glencoe members.
Each glass panel is supported with stainless steel standoffs.
The entire display is 21’ wide and almost 9’
high and was fabricated using glass, solid oak, oak veneer
and metal highlights.
